Djambo ~ Steve Skaith Band ~ Rod Jenkins Centre Stage ~ Thursday 18th september 2008

After a warm introduction by host Paul Burke, Djambo took to the stage for the opening set. With a fun mix of melody & entertainment, with rhythm & fusion music, Djambo provided the perfect crowd pleasing opening for the evenings entertainment and paved the way for what was to come!

Great support shown by fellow musicians, Pete Read, Aimee Newsome Stone, Andy stone & Tinderbox's Monique Houraghan & Dan Tucker, to name but a few, who came along as part of the audience for the evenings entertainment.

Guitarist Rod Jenkins slowed the pace so that the audience were able to fully appreciate his wondeful acoustic set and broad deep vocals. A folky mix of americana style melodies accompanied poinient story telling lyrics. A smooth & well excecuted set!

The four piece, Steve Skaith Band set the pace with foot tapping exotic rhythms & beautiful harmonics.

A totally unique & somewhat addictive sound emerged, acoustic guitar, accordion, drums & whistle, the perfect combination to blend with the unique vocal style of Steve Skaith & accompanying harmonies by Catherine Burke.

Wowing the lively and very much entertained crowd with his mexican influenced compositions, and tracks including chart topper Radio Africa, Steve Skaith provided a relaxed, communicative set & left his mixed nationality audience ready for more.

After a short interval, where glasses clinked, accompanied by the sound of merry chatter and instruments being tuned in the distance, Djambo regrouped and again took to the stage.

Led by vocalist, saxophonist & mandolinist Paul Burke, Djambo lifted the audience to their peak of enjoyment & entertainment for the evening.
Accompanied by the lightening fingers and melodic fluidity of Catherine Burke on the woodwind section, she also provided fantastic harmonies & enhanced the overall sound of the band.
A fusion mix of melodies and rhythms, from Irish Folk to Latin and Spanish elements, Djambo really encompassed a wide range of styles and sounds to please every listener.
With members of the audience being overtaken by the desire to move to the fantastic music, the dance floor quickly filled. A Conga-esq train formed, led by Dan Tucker, and with such freedom of spirit, danced around the venue!
A truly fun and lively performance from multi talented musicians, and a superb close to the evening!

Once again the crowd left the venue buzzing and happy. A fantastic evening provided by Bournemouth Folk Club's Paul Burke & without a doubt a sound recommendation to go to the club and check it out for yourselves...
